I think of myself as an Educational Technologist; I work as a Learning Support Strategist; some of my non-techie colleagues call me a technical translator; I call myself a geek wannabe. I’m based in the Office of Learning Technology at UBC.
I have a varied background: Psychology; Early Childhood Education; Special Education; a short foray into (then called) Technology Based Distributed Learning and (in the process) have learned a little about alot. I’ve been a college instructor; child development consultant; non-profit contract worker; project manager; course designer (at least for those courses I had the good fortune to teach), distance education manager and Denny’s waitress (which later led to an aversion to polyester and the color orange).
At UBC, they let me develop orientation and learning support resources for students and faculty who are somehow involved in teaching or learning with technology. I do this with many excellent and inspiring colleagues and students.
For me, this whole blogging thing started as a bit of an experiment in creating a portfolio blog (blogfolio) in MT a few years ago. I moved it over to WordPress recently and haven’t had time to properly re-organize.
I’ll get to that soon and in the meantime – just poke around and let me know if I’m skating on thin ice or on my way to becoming coherent!!
